Which Snoring Aid Will You Choose?

Finding a good snoring aid is indeed a daunting task. With so many different choices to select from; it becomes very difficult to ascertain the best amongst the rest. But each aid that is available for snoring has a characteristic feature about it and one that is suitable for you may not be suitable for your friend or sibling. Here you will find all different kinds of aids used for snoring listed and described.

#1 Nasal Snoring Strip:

These are by far the most advertised kind of aids used for snoring. As the name suggests, these aids make use of strips that are fixed across the nose. They are provided with adhesive material and can be used only once. These nasal snoring strips are quite safe to use and help to keep the nasal cavity dilated and widened. People who suffer from nasal engorgements, deviated nasal septum or sinusitis can use these strips with great benefit.

#2 Chin Strap or Jaw Supporter:

These are quite convenient aids that support the chin or jaw and hold them tightly in place; without permitting them to open the mouth wide. They can be re-used, washed and are extremely effective too.

#3 Chin Cushions:

These are similar to the chin straps, but have a cushion that sits right underneath the chin. This prevents the head from falling forward and keeps the throat extended.

#4 Chin up Strips:

These are again a different kind of adhesive strips that look like the English letter- U. These strips are provided with adhesive material and require to be fixed under the mouth.

#5 Tongue Retainers:

These are devices that have to be placed within the mouth and they work by keeping the tongue pushed forward and firmly keep it fixed that way during sleep.

#6 Nasal Braces:

The name is quite self suggestive and this snoring aid has to be inserted within the nasal cavity and provides support to the walls of the nose and maintains it in a dilated and open position.

#7 Nasal Clips:

Nasal clips are used to keep the nasal passage open and have to be inserted within the nose and attached to the partition between the 2 nostrils (nasal septum). They act upon the trigeminal nerve, which is the main nerve that supplies the nose. The final aim of these nasal clips is to keep the nose wide open. Some of these nasal clips also make use of magneto therapy to enhance the flow of blood to the parts.

#8 Snoring Sprays:

These sprays are usually medicated with steroidal compounds and mainly serve to reduce the congestion and inflammation within the nasal cavity. While they may be effective in keeping the nasal passage wide open and reduce snoring, many untoward side effects like dryness of the nose and epistaxis (bleeding from nose) have been reported.

#9 MAD:

This is an effective snoring aid, but needs the assistance and expertise of a professional dentist to get it fitted within the mouth. Basically it helps to keep the lower jaw, slightly protruded.
